  • How does this project work?
For each £3 spent 1 metre square of degraded farmland is purchased within the UK. Gentle Farming then uses its experience to restore that farmland whilst growing food, starting in year 1 and taking approximately 5 years to complete. Gentle Farming will then manage that land for at least the next 50 years. Likely for generations to come.
  • What rewards do I get for taking part in this project?
First right of refusal on carbon credits produced each year Monthly farm updates Bespoke and high quality seasonal content for marketing purposes. Gentle Farming Champion Badge Farm visits Volunteering opportunities on the farm First right of refusal on regenerative food produced Yearly verified performance report of the restoration journey
  • How does this project combat green-washing?
This project combats green-washing claims through true transparency. Each sponsor receives detailed annual reports outlining soil health improvements, carbon sequestration, biodiversity gains, and food production metrics. Monthly updates with photos, videos, and engaging content provide ongoing insights into the farm's progress. By openly sharing data and inviting sponsors for farm visits, Gentle Farming ensures that every step of the regenerative process is visible and verifiable, demonstrating genuine commitment to sustainable practices and environmental impact.
  • How long does it take to regenerate soil?
The time to regenerate soil varies based on factors like degradation level, climate, and methods used. Typically, it can take 1 to 3 years for noticeable improvements, while full restoration might take decades. Practices like cover cropping, composting, and reduced tillage can accelerate this process.
  • What will be grown in the fields?
Gentle Farming will cultivate a diverse array of crops, including nutrient-rich vegetables, grains, and legumes, alongside raising livestock. By employing regenerative practices, they ensure the soil remains fertile and healthy, bolstering food security and resilience. Their approach prioritises biodiversity, sustainability, and the long-term vitality of the farmland, safeguarding our food future.
  • What regenerative practices will be used?
Gentle Farming employs regenerative practices such as cover cropping, crop rotation, composting, and reduced tillage. They integrate livestock to enhance soil fertility through natural grazing patterns and manure. These methods improve soil health, increase biodiversity, and ensure sustainable, resilient food production.
  • Why is soil important?
Soil is crucial for food security and nutrition, as it provides the foundation for growing healthy, nutrient-rich crops. Healthy soil supports robust plant growth, improves crop yields, and enhances resilience against pests and diseases, ensuring a stable and nutritious food supply for the future.
  • What is healthy or unhealthy soil?
Healthy soil is rich in organic matter, nutrients, and beneficial microorganisms, supporting robust plant growth and high crop yields. It has good structure, water retention, and drainage capabilities. Unhealthy soil, however, is often compacted, nutrient-depleted, and lacking in organic matter and biodiversity. This results in poor plant growth, lower yields, and increased vulnerability to erosion, pests, and diseases, ultimately threatening food security and ecosystem health.
  • Soil compared to Tree Planting
Improving soil health through regenerative practices offers immediate climate benefits, unlike tree planting, which takes decades to mature. By enhancing soil fertility, water retention, and biodiversity within a single growing season, we can quickly boost crop yields and ecosystem resilience. Given the urgency of the climate crisis, we need solutions that provide swift, tangible environmental benefits. Healthier soil supports sustainable agriculture and delivers rapid climate impact, making it a crucial strategy for our planet’s future.
  • Who will be farming the fields?
The Gentle Farming team, with over 40 years of regenerative farming expertise, will ensure ongoing soil regeneration. Their vast experience allows them to fast-track the transformation of damaged soil into thriving, healthy land. Trust in Gentle Farming to bring their seasoned knowledge and passion to every inch of soil they revive.
